Tara Wilkinson
Artist, Photographer, Creatrice
Born in Toronto, Ontario, Tara Wilkinson is an award-winning photographer and fibre artist based in Prince Edward County. All of Tara’s life experiences have been intricately interconnected, evolving and shaping her, becoming the fuel for her artistic life.
Tara has been taking photographs since she was 11 years old when she won her first camera as a papergirl for The Toronto Star. Primarily self-taught, Tara has studied photography at Centennial College, Ryerson University and Sir Sandford Fleming College's Haliburton School of the Arts. Extensive travel throughout her career has resulted in opportunities to shoot in over 25 countries. Following the joyous birth of her daughter, she launched Love Nest Photography in 2004, offering women pregnancy portraits. Over three years, Tara photographed over 60 expectant mothers ... helping them to "Celebrate life to the Fullest". With "Live to Create" as their mantra, Tara and her husband, encaustic painter, Andrew Csafordi, moved to Prince Edward County in 2007 where they opened two galleries in a magnificent barn and restored chicken coop on their farm. The Love Nest Studio Gallery is the “incubator” for all of Tara’s creative explorations. Since 1998, Tara has had many solo fine art photography exhibitions in Toronto and Prince Edward County. Tara's AMORE show was part of the 2017 Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival held at the Joseph D. Carrier Gallery in Toronto. “AMORE” celebrated not only her love of photography, but also her love of Italy’s astounding beauty, culture and people. Tara won several Awards and Honourable Mentions for her photography. At the 2016 CLIC Photo Show … a juried exhibition of photography from across Eastern Ontario, Tara's image "In the Light of Loneliness" won both First Place (Visible World) and the People's Choice Award. Shot in Venice, Italy, the image depicts an elderly man shuffling through a piazza, the windows in front of him beautifully reflecting the surrounding buildings and sky. In 2009, Tara was one of 24 artists from Eastern Ontario chosen by the Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) to be awarded a booth at the Spring One of a Kind Show in Toronto - Canada's largest and most prestigious retail show for fine craft in Canada. Tara’s fibre art sculptures (which she was creating at the time) became the featured image of the show - resulting in extensive coverage through the show’s advertising, promotion and media campaigns. A proud member of the Prince Edward County ARTS TRAIL, Tara and Andrew have welcomed thousands of visitors since they joined the trail in 2009. Tara was thrilled to have been chosen to be the featured artist on the cover of the 2015 Arts Trail Guide. |
